Dunfermline City Chambers
West Fife
Dunfermline City Chambers stands on the site of the earlier Townhouse of 1771. It took three years to build, and was completed in 1879, to a design in the French Gothic style.
The building has historic features and architectural importance, such as heraldic stones, which were recovered from the old Townhouse, some of which may have originated from the derelict Royal Palace of Dunfermline. Don't forget to tour the outside of the building to see all the carved stone detailing.
It also houses the old police cells and the impressive oak hammer beams in the Council Chambers, which contain several busts of Scottish sovereigns and a portrait by Sir Joseph Paton of King Malcolm and Queen Margaret.
Guided tours will take place throughout the day.
