In Person West Dunbartonshire Dumbarton Sheriff Court new 14 September 2024 Dumbarton Sheriff Court designed by Scottish architect James Gillespie Graham, the foundation stone of the building was laid on 19th July 1824 and the neoclassical building was completed in 1826. Over the last 2 centuries, it has served not just as a courthouse but also as the seat of Dunbartonshire County Council and as the headquarters of the local police force. Since 1965 it has exclusively served as the Sheriff and Justice of the Peace Court and it was extensively modernised in 2009. In Person West Dunbartonshire Guided Walk - Goldenhill Roman Fort and Introduction to the Antonine Wall new 14 September 2024 The Antonine Wall is a major historical feature across the centre of Scotland. It ends or starts here in West Dunbartonshire (depending on your view). The terminal fort within Old Kilpatrick is hidden by modern buildings, but the wall stretches eastwards from here. The next fort was at Goldenhill which is the subject of this walk. Although a highly significant fort in its day, you need some guidance to identify its location and form. In Person West Dunbartonshire Kilbowie St Andrews Church new 14 September 2024 This attractive church proudly acknowledges the Clydebank Blitz and the way the community has re-established itself after the destruction. The memorial side chapel has with tapestries and a stained glass window by Eilidh Keith 1997, is dedicated to the victims. The bell from 1933 is one of few remaining in this former industrial community of Scotland. The Luftwaffe attacked nearby military targets including the John Brown shipyard and the Singer sewing machine factory leaving many dead and around 50,000 homeless.
