Houston - Houston & Killellan Kirk
Renfrewshire
Our church, believed to be the third structure on this site, with earlier buildings dating back to the 8th and 18th centuries, was completed in 1875, so next year we celebrate our 150th anniversary. The building is designated a Grade B Listed Building by Scottish Heritage and is home to Grade A Listed effigies of Sir Patrick Houstoun and Lady Agnes Campbell, dating from the 15th century.
Our church will be open to the public to walk around and enjoy. There will be information boards around the building, highlighting particular areas of interest and their history (in particular, our stained glass windows) as well as a short film about the history of the church, told through its Ministers, through the ages. We will also be holding a 'Heritage Exhibition' in our upstairs halls, focusing on people's memories of Houston, past and present, and what the church means to them in their lives, and in our community, and including a display of photographs.
Members of Houston & Crosslee Historical Society will be on hand to guide people if necessary, and to answer any additional questions they might have.
