Fowlis Wester Village Hall

2024 Theme

Once a centre of over 600 people, the old drove road used to pass through the village of Fowlis Wester before the turnpike – now A85. It was a centre of skills supporting the trades, a hub of farms for families and itinerant workers. Its flax trade workers produce material using the water of the Fowlis Burn; its church has stood here since C13 and before that it marked the arrival of Columba’s Christian companion Bean in C7. With standing stones nearby, visitors will be able to see elements of this past and the networks which still exist.

The Hall was built in  2000 with the help of grants from 21st Century Hall for Scotland, the Scottish Executive, the Gannochy Trust and Perth & Kinross Leisure & Cultural Services. Ten percent of the cost of building - £25,000 - was raised through the donations and fund raising efforts of the local community.

The hall will be welcoming visitors from 10:00 to 16:00 on Saturday 14th.

Additional Access Information

The village is half a mile uphill north from the main A85 road; cyclists can fill water bottles, there is a bench to rest on and, depending on the weather, there will be chairs and tables to relax at either indoors or out. The large car park is adjacent to both the 20th century village hall and the originally 13th century St Bean’s kirk
