Penicuik Heritage Regeneration Project
Midlothian
Funded by Heritage Fund and Historic Environment Scotland, the 5 year scheme focuses on the historic core of Penicuik town centre and aims to tackle the effects of poor building maintenance, loss of architectural features, inconsistent shop-front design and unsympathetic public realm works. It has also offered training in traditional construction skills and the opportunity to develop community engagement projects relating to the history and heritage of Penicuik.
There will be exhibitions in the Town Hall together with a video to celebrate the completion of the PHRP and the 150th anniversary of the building of the Town hall, including an exhibition by the Penicuik Historical Society relating to the history of the Town Hall, which opened as the Cowan Institute in 1894.
There will also be guided tours of the Town Hall on an ad hoc basis.
We will also be opening the exhibition in the Hearse House in St Mungo’s churchyard.
