Jim Savage-Lowden Observatory
Highland – Inverness, Black Isle, Easter Ross, Ross & Cromarty
In Person
The Highlands Astronomical Society is a group of enthusiastic amateur astronomers. We enjoy observing the night sky at the Jim Savage-Lowden Observatory during the winter and the Sun using our special solar telescope in the summer.
The observatory is the only public observatory in the Highlands and was opened in 2008. There is a dome housing a 14” telescope, we have a number of other telescopes and a computer planetarium programme in the office area.
The public will be able to see the main telescope in the dome, watch the planetarium programme where we can see what the sky looked like 1000 years ago and if sunny, will be able to look through our special solar telescope.
