Kinneil House - Historic Environment Scotland
Falkirk
In Person
Please note that Kinneil House is taking part in a different weekend than other venues in the Falkirk region.
Built next to the Antonine Wall, Kinneil House was one of the seats of the powerful and wealthy Hamilton family. Subject to extensions and refurbishments over 300 years, it reflected the Hamiltons’ high status both inside and out.
The house also has a good claim to being the birthplace of the improved steam engine. The pioneering Scots engineer James Watt developed his first engine in a small workshop here in the 1700s.
Guided outdoor walks are also led by the Friends of Kinneil House on Saturdays at noon, more information can be found here.
