Edinburgh
The Parish Church of St Cuthbert is the oldest site of Christian Worship in Edinburgh. The current building is the 7th church on the site. On the site is the Memorial Chapel, where Agatha Christie remarried in 1930, and the stunningly ornate Sanctuary with Tiffany window, all in the middle of our Burke and Hare Era Graveyard.
In our religious life, in the art in the sanctuary, and in our music, we have deep rooted connections within the community and the local area. Our bellringers are connected to a broad network of campanologists across the country, with many visiting from other cities and other places. This is a shared cultural art that is practised across the country.
For Door Open Days we will have tours of one of the greatest organs in Edinburgh, tours of the belfry, and demonstrations of bell ringing and net weaving. There will be tea and coffee facilities and guides to talk about the history of the site.
