The Lost Close
Edinburgh
Just off Parliament Square; The Lost Close is the most recently uncovered underground space in the heart of the Old Town. Originally the building was the first purpose built bank in Scotland, the site of one of the most prominent coffee houses in Edinburgh’s history, before being tuned into police chambers and courtroom after the great fire of 1824, finally being converted into accommodation in 2018.
Coffee Morning! Celebrating a very specific part of our building’s history, the story of the coffee trade through Scottish history, and the tale of John’s Coffee House, one of the most important coffee houses in Edinburgh’s history. After the tour, we will be joined by our coffee supplier for a cupping session in the former bank vault/jail cell.
Join us for one of our scheduled tours of the history of coffee at 10:00, 12:00, or 13:00, or if you would like to have a nosey without the tour and cupping session, just come in to the entrance on Barrie’s Close between 10:00 and 15:00 and one of our guides will be happy to show you around the space.
