St Mary's Star Of The Sea
Edinburgh
St Mary Star of the Sea was opened for worship in 1854 and is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, patron saint of Leith. The church was built after the designs of Augustus Pugin (died 1852) and the work was supervised by his young son, Edward, and his son-in-law, J. A. Hanson.
The stained glassed windows, of which we are so proud, were mostly designed and made by Barnett and Sons of Leith, whose premises were in Constitution Street, opposite the church.
The church is open for the public to view the building and stained glass windows, and learn about the history the building.

At the time the church was opened there were more churches needed to serve the Irish immigrants who came to Scotland after the potato famine of 1846.
