The Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh sits at the heart of the city in our 140-year-old building welcoming over 100,000 people each year. At the Lyceum, we believe that theatre is good for the soul. Led by our Artistic Director David Greig, we bring the best theatre from around the world to Edinburgh and share the best of Scottish theatre with the world. We rehearse in our studio space across the road from the auditorium, and our costumes and sets are designed and built in house at our workshop in Roseburn, Edinburgh. Community is at the heart of what we do. In 2024, our Creative Learning department celebrates 25 years of developing and nurturing talent. Our Youth Theatre programmes have been the starting point for many Scottish actors, fostering newfound confidence and lifelong friendships. We also host 60+ writing groups, technical courses and training.

Join us at The Lyceum as we throw open our doors for a fun-filled family day! Featuring a range of drop-in activities such as crafts, costume try-ons, story sessions and a treasure hunt, this is a chance to explore our building and spend some fun, creative time together. Activities are most suitable for children aged 4 – 11, but all are welcome. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Backstage tours of the Theatre. Times and booking information will be available on our website.

Tours start at 10.30am, 11am, 12.15pm, 1.15pm, 1.45pm, 2.45pm.

Additional Access Information

All Front of House areas where drop-in activities will take place have lift access and accessible toilets. Backstage tours involve walking, small spaces and stairs, but lifts are available in some areas and routes can be altered to accommodate access needs. Water bottles can be filled up in our bar area.
