Outer Spaces’ Artist Residents at the former Royal London Building
Edinburgh
Outer Spaces is a charity collaborating with artists, art collectives, organisations, and commercial property owners, to occupy and activate the nation’s empty commercial spaces. Our aim is to build an alternative infrastructure for the arts by providing artists with the opportunity to utilise empty shops, offices, and industrial space, to produce and exhibit their work, and rehearse, perform, and deliver workshops and events.
We also programme residencies and projects to help sustain and support artistic practice and we commission artists to engage audiences with art practice. Our projects transform closed and boarded-up shops, streetscapes and empty commercial centres into highly visible, colourful, inviting spaces where people can experience the arts first hand. Our programming reconnects and regenerates communities and supports social and cultural networks to thrive.
An exciting and unique opportunity to take a behind the scenes peek of the former Royal London building on Henderson Row, which is currently being occupied by over 50 multi-disciplinary artists.
This open studio event is an opportunity to see real artists at work and find out how they utilise and reanimate empty buildings in the city of Edinburgh.
Visitors do not need to book but will be signed in and out and a studio plan will be provided.
There will be two ‘stewards’ on each floor, as well as artists working in their studios. There are a number of bookable activities throughout the day- see the Eventbrite link for more information.
