Leith Theatre

28 September 2024 (11:00 - 17:00)

Edinburgh

In Person
2024 Theme

Leith Theatre is a cultural organisation in its fledgling years, operating from a beautiful and locally significant 1930s semi-derelict heritage building in the most diverse area in the city. We are currently on the Theatres at Risk Register. Our purpose is to preserve and bring this heritage building back to the people as a world-class music and performance venue and innovative community asset.

Leith Theatre will display its existing links to Leith heritage and share Leith Theatre’s own heritage journey. This year, thanks to a new partnership, there will be an accompanying exhibition in the main hall from University of Strathclyde’s Year 4 Architecture and Design students after Leith Theatre was one of their ‘live’ clients this academic year.

We are excited to host the SS Explorer team, who have a newly completed conservation plan for this ship, currently docked at Forth Ports.

Come and explore parts of this magnificent building in the heart of Leith, take part in engaging activities, see inspiring Leith Theatre re-visioning and meet the team supporting the journey towards the venue’s next chapter.

We will be offering two guided meanders through our original ticket booths and into the Main Auditorium during the day at 11:30am and 2:30pm, gathering in groups in the Thomas Morton Hall.

The venue and exhibition will be open throughout the day for visitors to explore at their own pace.

2024 Theme - Heritage of Routes, Networks and Connections

Our Doors Open Day invites the community to explore our heritage and new creative partnerships, building on the relationships we’ve cultivated through our own heritage exploration and visiting Leith’s past.
