HUNTER, Cpl Thomas Peck, VC, RM / RM 43 Commando Memorial.   

Corporal Thomas Peck Hunter, VC, RM 43 Commando, was 21 years old when he was killed on 03-Apr-1945 by drawing enemy fire onto himself to protect & save his Troop comrades during “Operation Roast” WW2 Battle at Lake Comacchio, North Italy. Cpl Thomas P. Hunter is buried at Argenta Gap   Military Cemetery, maintained by Commonwealth War Graves Commission, Ferrara, Emilia-Romagna, North Italy.  Cpl Thomas P. Hunter was awarded a posthumous Victoria Cross (VC) for his supreme sacrifice & valour in the face of the enemy.  King George VI presented his VC to his parents at a private investiture, Palace of Holyroodhouse, September 1945.  Thomas P. Hunter attended Stenhouse Primary & Tynecastle High schools. 

This is a very rare honour & unique privilege to welcome serving Royal Marines as very special Tour Guides & Guest Speakers.

Sat-28-Sep-2024 and Sun-29-Sep-2024 : 5 Tours on each day at the same times :- 

  • Guided "walk & talk" Tours' format :- 
    10:30 to 11:30hrs = Tour No.1 of 5 :- 
    10:30 to 10:50hrs = Walk from Hotel to Memorial ; 
    10:50 to 11:10hrs = Talk at Memorial ; 
    11:10 to 11:30hrs = Walk from Memorial to Hotel.  

    NB : No Tour between 12:30 & 13:30hrs. 

  • 11:30 to 12:30hrs = Tour No.2 of 5
  • 13:30 to 14:30hrs = Tour No.3 of 5 
  • 14:30 to 15:30hrs = Tour No.4 of 5
  • 15:30 to 16:30hrs = Tour No.5 of 5

Caveat : In the event of serving Royal Marines being urgently recalled to their Units, Tours will be cancelled as appropriate.

Please Note    

  • The nearest tram-stop is Ocean Terminal. Facing main entrance of OT Shopping Centre, turn right & walk towards the end of Ocean Drive & Prince of Wales Dock, approx. 15 mins walk.
  • Tours are subject to public access being possible, due to former Debenhams Dept. Store & Blue/East-side car-park being demolished, as part of on-going re-development of Ocean Terminal (OT) Shopping Centre. As per e-mail Tues-28-May-2024 from OT Asset Manager’s Office, public access will be possible as “there is no impact on this memorial as it is not within the land ownership of Ocean Terminal.”
  • The nearest toilets are in Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre, approx. 15 mins walk.
