Join us for a guided tour within the beautiful grounds of Loretto School which will focus on some fascinating buildings as part of a tour of the campus:

Pinkie House
The origins of Pinkie House date to the 14th-century with significant additions in the 15th-century being undertaken by Alexander Seton and further additions made in the early 17th-century. This fascinating building has enduring links to East Lothian’s rich cultural history. The famous Painted Gallery (1630) features one of the finest painted ceilings in Scotland, a rare survivor.

Loretto Chapel
Loretto Chapel is an exquisite building that was commissioned in 1892 and enlarged and remodelled, in a striking fashion, in 1964; its present organ was installed in 1989. There are memorials to former pupils who fell in the World Wars and memorial plaques to many others associated with the school.

Colin Thompson Hall
Designed and constructed in 1936 by Lorimer & Matthew, this gothic building was converted for use as a dance and movement studio.

The Loretto Campus Tour offer the opportunity to understand the influences of the people who have formed the architectural character of this place, their networks and connections. We come to know Alexander Seton (1555-1622) through Pinkie House, who as Lord Chancellor of Scotland played an influential role at the highest political level. We meet the brilliant Loretto Headmaster Hely Hutchinson Almond (1832-1903) at the Loretto Chapel and learn about his influence of generations of scholars. We meet Scottish Architect and furniture designer Sir Robert Lorimer whose architectural influence can be seen within the distinctive design of the Colin Thomson Hall. These are just some of the people who have continued the pursuit of knowledge and education, making Loretto such a special place for learning.
