The School of Life Sciences is the UK’s top-ranked university faculty for biological sciences. We’re a large research complex made of 4 buildings, ranging from the late 60s concrete of the Medical Sciences Institute to the steel and glass of the Discovery Centre, celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. 

We’re the top-rated UK university faculty in the most recent Research Excellence Framework for biological sciences. Our research covers areas like making new medicines, parasitology, microbiology, and much more.

The School of Life Sciences is all about connections, from the microscopic links that make life work to our international partnerships. We connect across the city with our public engagement work, and our artistic collaborations have made real, physical changes in our communities.

For Doors Open Day we’ll be welcoming you to the University of Dundee’s School of Life Sciences. Throughout the afternoon we’ll be in our medicinal garden, running activities to bring some of the vital work we do making new medicines to life. 

We’ll also be running tours of the inside of our complex. You’ll discover our science, art, and the creativity that goes on inside one of Dundee’s most recognisable buildings, as well as enjoying some of the best views in the city.

Please note, our garden does have some medicinal plants, like foxgloves, which are toxic. We strongly recommend keeping a close eye on any young children. The building tour is most suitable for those aged 12+, as we’ll be talking about real life science and there is a bit of complexity. Our outdoor activities are suitable for younger children. Dogs, cats, meerkats, and any other pet on a suitable lead is also welcome in the garden.

There will be guided tours of the building at 12:00 and 14:00.
