Kilwinning Abbey Church
Ayrshire
The Abbey Church of Kilwinning was built by John Garland and John Wright, and completed in 1774, on the site of its 16th century predecessor, which was located in the ruins of Kilwinning Abbey, founded c.1188. Our history on this site therefore goes back over 830 years. Simple T-plan with attractive Eglinton Loft supported on fluted Corinthian columns. Stained glass by W & J J Keir, Gordon Webster, Stephen Adam & Son, Abbey Studios, Sax Shaw, and Paul Lucky. Foster & Andrews organ 1887, wall tapestry and Cole Hamilton screen.
Members or Church Visitor team will be in attendance to meet groups as they arrive and give them our story. Team members have general knowledge of the Church and its history and some have in addition specialist knowledge of the building, the organ and stained glass windows.
