Forfar Sheriff and Justice of the Peace court is a Sheriff Court House within the Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service estate dealing with criminal and civil court business.

The criminal business includes Justice of the Peace, and Summary and Solemn crime, including trials and sentencing. The civil business ranges from family matters, adoptions, divorces, claims for money and personal injury cases. The court sees prisoners, members of the public, members of the Judiciary, solicitors, Police Officers and many more come through the doors on daily basis.

The courthouse was opened in 1871 and maintains a number of the original features.

Come and enjoy a guided tour of the courthouse, including an insight into court rooms, the cell area, a prisoner transport van and other areas which are normally not available to the public.

Those on the tour will have a chance to see and hear how court business works on a day-to-day basis, as well as hear some fascinating facts and information about the history of not only the courthouse, but also of justice in this area of Scotland as well as the reasons behind court dress and a number of other traditions which remain in place today.

First tour is at 10.15am and the last one is at 3.15pm. Tours leaving every half an hour and taking approx. 1 hour. Booking is not required however please note you may be required to wait for a tour if the next one is full when you arrive.
