Davidson Legacy Cottage

8 September 2024 (11:00 - 15:00)

Angus

In Person

The Davidson family, founders of the world-famous Harley-Davidson Motor Company®, has its roots in the tiny village of Aberlemno near the small market town of Brechin in Angus.

The Davidson Legacy Cottage is a step back in time to a period of no running water, no inside toilet or fully fitted kitchen. Today it stands restored and fully furnished as the home that the Davidson family would recognise if ever they returned. In the kitchen, the old range is up and working, ready to cook broth and oatcakes to feed a hungry family. The old box bed in the corner is ready to sleep in.

From the upstairs bedrooms, reached by a tiny enclosed wooden staircase, the traditional small wooden windows provide panoramic views across the surrounding fields to the mountains beyond.

The cottage has welcomed thousands of visitors from around the world to see the historic home. The cottage, under the care of the Davidson Legacy Preservation Group who host open meets on the Second Sunday of each month, but the current owners open every Sunday from April to October, and visitors are free to view the cottage on their own or request a guided tour and sign the visitors book.

Drop in during Doors Open Days for a tour of the cottage and to hear about how the Davidson family lived before emigrating.
