Kinneff Old Church
Aberdeenshire
Kinneff Old Church, founded in the 13th century, holds a very important story in the history of Scotland. In 1652 Oliver Cromwell’s forces ran rampant over Scotland, Cromwell’s intent being to capture and destroy the Scottish Crown Jewels – The Honours of Scotland – by that time housed in Dunnottar Castle. The minister of Kinneff Church, James Grainger and his wife hatched a plan to smuggle the jewels out of the castle and take them to the Church where they kept them safely hidden for 9 years, until Charles II returned to the throne.
Come and visit this beautiful building over the weekend where the Trustees will be on site to give detailed accounts of the history of the Old Church and the graveyard and to answer any questions.
