Aberdeenshire
The Garioch Heritage Centre sits in the renovated Carriage and Wagon Workshop, part of the former Inverurie Locomotive Works. Closed in 1969, it now has a new lease of life as home for the Garioch Heritage collections.
The Centre tells the story of life in the Garioch from the early 20th century to the present day, shedding light on the domestic and working lives of local people. The building in which the collection is housed is a product of the national rail network developed throughout the second half of the 19th century. It facilitated the extension of people’s social and economic horizons.
On site there is also a gift shop, café and activities to amuse younger visitors. Visitors can research local history and browse the Society’s extensive collection of photographs and archive material in the library.
