Aberdeenshire
The church is the parish church of Deer. The present building was constructed in the 18th century on top of the ruins of a previous medieval building, the remains of which (choir part) are located immediately behind the church. The church, along with the nearby Deer Abbey is associated with the 10th century illustrated Gospel manuscript, the Book of Deer (presently held in Cambridge University Library and exhibited lately in Aberdeen Art Gallery)
There will be an exhibition by local heritage groups, namely The Book of Deer Project, the Buchan Heritage Society, the Buchan Field Club, the local churches, Friends of Aden Park and the Friends of New Aberdour Pilgrimage and Heritage initiative. These groups are coming together to form the Deer Heritage Initiative, a project to re-purpose the church into a heritage centre.
