One of Archibald Simpson’s earliest buildings (1816) in Aberdeen. St Andrew’s Chapel was a successor to the Upper Room of John Skinner’s house where the First Bishop to Free and Independent America was consecrated in 1784.
The Current edifice tells the story of Aberdeen in Architectural Innovation, Liturgical history and is known as the ‘Flagship of the Spirit’ for the Church. The building is known by singers and musicians as an ‘Acoustic Enigma’ where sound moves back to front.
There will be Saturday recitals on the hour, cathedral at noon concert and Sunday services at 8am and 10:45am. Guided tours on request.
