In honour of Climate Heritage Week this week's theme is sustainability. Embark on an eco-friendly voyage, dip your toes into the Atlantic Ocean and go behind-the-scenes with a sustainable community enterprise.
This week's venues cover Fife, Midlothian and the Western Isles!
Fife
Earthship Fife: An Earthship is a house made from recycled materials and powered by renewable energy from wind, water and sun. Just as a ship setting off on a voyage must provide for all the needs of its crew, so an Earthship provides for all the basic needs of shelter, water and electricity.
Midlothian
Penicuik Storehouse: As a community owned social enterprise, the Penicuik Storehouse strives to provide low cost food and life training for vulnerable people as a sustainable alternative to food banks. Go behind-the-scenes with Eva and James and see the incredible progress they have been making!
Western Isles
Sgoil Chàirinis: Learn from local school children about the natural protective and nutritional qualities of seaweed in a short film about coastal erosion on the island of North Uist. Follow them along the shoreline as they wade in rock pools, explore archaeological digs and read accounts from local crofters.
